I am a little behind on posting this, but better late than never! I was thinking about how I'd like to record all the amazing little changes we see in Camille. Every couple weeks or so (or more frequently) I am writing a Letter to Camille. So, here we go!
Camille,
You are a little over two weeks old now! The last two weeks have had lots of highlights...
You were born.
And, just by doing that, you have made your dad's and my life so much better. Bless your heart, your entrance into the world made for a long day. But, it was the best day we could've imagined! I have wondered how the delivery was from your point of view. I wish you could tell us.
You came home with us. The first few days with you were busy and exciting. We started to get into a bit of a routine. Our routine right now pretty much goes like this: You eat every two hours during the day and every three hours at night. We cuddle with you for about 30-45 minutes after you eat. We also cuddle with you any time you want us to.
You had your first Christmas. We had lots of company during the day. It was nice having people over and never having to leave the house since you were so little.
You've had lots of visitors. Friends and family have been sweet enough to come visit and bring us food and bring lots of hugs and love for you.
You have your picture taken all the time. We took you to the baby photographer. We also have taken hundreds of photos of you ourselves.
Your dad and I have had so much fun getting to know you so far. We love your little personality. I know it's supposedly a newborn reflex to grasp... But, I think there's more to it than that when you look at us and reach for our hand or our chest. You love to cuddle and be held. You love the security of a swaddle or your sleep sack, but you always want one hand free to keep near your face. You like your bouncy seat, but you're not yet sure how you feel about your swing. Your little noises and squeaks are so sweet, and they are most frequent when you are sleeping hard. You do the cutest things with your lips. They are so pouty and pink. It's adorable when you stick out your bottom lip. You travel well in the car seat, once you're in it. You like having your diaper changed, but you are adamantly opposed to changing clothes. Your favorite clothes are your "comfy clothes"... your gowns and your sleep & plays. You will wear cute shirts and pants, but you visibly relax more when we change you into the more comfortable things. You have had one bath (now that your cord is gone), and you were so upset! We are going to work on our technique, and hopefully that will help. Right now, you are a fantastic sleeper, and we almost always have to wake you up to feed you. Sometimes you want your paci, and other times you are not interested in it at all. You love to be rocked in the glider and walked around the house on a "tour" as we call it. You look right at us when we talk to you. You don't mind a bit when I play with your hands and feet. You may end up with a dent in your forehead for as much as we kiss it!
You have been to your doctor twice. Your pediatrician visits we on December 26 and January 3. On December 26, you were 7lbs 9oz and measured 20". On January 3, you were 7 lbs 10 oz and measured 21.5". We are now feeding you every two hours during the day and every three hours at night to get some more weight on you. Your little hemangiomas we talked about at the first visit are fading away quickly. On your second visit, the doctor finished getting your little umbilical cord off, since it was only halfway attached that morning. You have a tiny heart murmur, but the dr. said that's fine. You are pretty easy going (so far) about being at the dr.'s office.
You are constantly changing. When you were born, you had dark, dark hair and bluish-gray eyes. Your hair is much lighter now. Your eyes still seem the same color. You're making eye contact, and you look around when you hear a voice you recognize. You sleep great at night. Your facial features seem somehow different, but I can't pinpoint exactly how. Your eyes seem bigger. You have discovered your hands and frequently bend your fingers, touch your face, and touch us. You have figured out how to hold your paci.
It's amazing how much we love you!
