Old Friends

Last night, Sam and I had the chance to catch up with some old friends from high school. Sam, Ronny, Charlie, and Jon were the best of friends while we were all at BHS. I knew these boys from middle school and had a special "seat" in watching their friendship grow over the years. These four have seen each other through high school, college, starting careers, a mission trip, girlfriends, dates, and three weddings. And, even though life and work certainly make it more challenging for them to get together, whenever they do get together, it's like they haven't missed a beat. Charlie and his wife, Kristy, were nice enough to have all of us (the boys and their wives) to their house last night to cook out, play the Wii, and catch up. We had such a nice time talking and laughing over dinner, playing Mario Kart (I think we played the Super Nintendo version of this nine years ago in my dorm room... that doesn't seem that long ago, but I guess it was!), and just enjoying each other's company. Every once in a while last night, I couldn't help remembering how far they've all come, how much they've changed and somehow still stayed a little the same, and what they're all up to now. It just makes me so thankful for Sam and these three that they still have each other as such great lifelong friends.
