Funny Story

Here's a little example of how much I worry...

So Jennifer and I spent much of today swimming at her dad's house in Bartlett. Sam and I had been in touch off and on just kind of chatting here and there. Later in the day, he called me as he was getting off work. I realized I missed his call and tried to call him back, as we were getting ready to head back to Arlington. I couldn't get hold of him. My phone died shortly thereafter. So, then I started using Jen's phone to call Sam. Since I didn't want to bother scrolling through her contact list, I just dialed his phone number. Well, on the way home, we ran by the dollar store and Walgreen's to pick up a few things for Jen's daughter, Lily's upcoming birthday party. During that whole time, which was about an hour and a half, I was trying to call Sam over and over. Still couldn't get him. No answer. Now, my mind was concocting all these crazy stories such as: 1.) I couldn't reach Sam because he was dead in a ditch somewhere, or 2.) I couldn't reach him because he was in a wreck, or 3.) Sam had been kidnapped on his way home from work. I kid you not... this is where my mind goes (So, please, if I ever try over and over to call you... please just respond in some way so I know you're alive. Thanks!) I probably called at least seven times. Then, finally on the way home, I called again and there was an answer.... but, it was a man's voice I didn't recognize. I said, "Sam!", and the man who answered hung up. I turned to Jennifer as she was driving and I said, "I just got an answer, and it was this scary sounding man answering Sam's phone!!" So I was sure that scenario #3 had happened. So Jennifer took the phone, scrolled through her contact list, and called Sam's phone number. He immediately answered (at which point I thought that his kidnapper was letting him speak for just a moment before he let us know the ransom amount... I still kid you not, this is where my head was), and the two of them reviewed the events from the last couple hours. It turns out that I had been calling Sam's old cell phone number that he had when we were with Verizon, before we switched to AT&T. Yeah, that would explain the strange voice and the fact that the person on the other end didn't answer me the many times I called. Jennifer got a pretty good laugh out of it. This will teach me to try to remember that Sam has a new cell #!
