Here is the background... And, please don't be offended if you don't agree with my thoughts. I have already been researching baby photographers in the area. Many of their prices are downright outrageous. And, being that I am a big budget follower (and Sam and I write down in our "money book" every penny we spend and give ourselves allowances for dates, gas, and groceries, etc.), I am having trouble imagining paying a $350 sitting fee for a newborn shoot plus a minimum requirement of $350 worth of photos to be bought. No, thanks! Some photographers have a baby plan where you end up spending a minimum of $2000 on four photography sessions during baby's first year. I hope to find a good photographer who doesn't charge an arm and a leg, but I also want to be able to pull out my own DSLR camera (that we plan to buy in the next couple months) and take my own great photos of our baby at any time I please.
So, here is what I found....

This is basically a "recipe" book for photographing your baby. Sample photos are displayed, and for each photo you get info about how to adjust camera settings, lighting, and practical, professional tips for getting your photo just right. This book has all 5-star ratings on Amazon, so it must be good!
I'll definitely be ordering this book soon! (And practicing with it and my future new camera on my pugs. ha!)
If you want to take a peek at the book, here's the Amazon link!

Wow, I'm definitely going to be buying that book! I got my DSLR about a year ago but I still have so much to learn. However, we had Melissa Shepherd Schwartz come and take newborn pics of London and they turned out awesome! If you are interested, I'm sure she'd do some for you pretty cheap since she's just getting started on her photography business. I'd send her a fb message or something if I were you. (And if you didn't know, she also has a blog called Crazy Four Boys where you could see sample pics and contact her there too.) She came to our house and took some precious pics of both the kids. Check out my facebook page if you want to see those too.
Not that I don't think you could take great ones yourself! :) I just know I couldn't have taken any nearly as good as the ones she took. Plus, she'll just give you the picture cd and you can print any pic and any size you want.
I'm going to let you study this book and take lots of practice with Baby H! Then, by the time I have a baby you'll be a pro and I can just pay you (and hopefully get the friends discount!!)!!
Good idea..I just bought a used DSLR on ebay for 200 bucks and I am really pleased with it. I did have Phil Ramsey give me some quick pointers which helped out. I will say I don't think I can ever get from my camera/talents what he gets! He takes beautiful pictures (as does many other photographers:) and he knows how tight I am. I usually spend $150 each time I have them made and sitting fee is $40...not so bad! I have also used Emily Cook and Christi Oswalt and they did some awesome pictures for us too:)
