True Romance

What says love more than a Follistim shot? :)
I just had to share how this cool little contraption works.

First, we got out our pretty little med vial and injection pen in the mail on Friday. Can you believe that little thing costs $261? Crazy! It looks like there are only about nine drops in there! You might also notice the cool pen and case. Nope, it's not a pen you use for writing, but it sure looks like one!

First, we used an alcohol wipe to sterilize my belly and the injection pen.
Then, we took the pen apart and inserted the medicine vial.

After that, we attached the needle to the "writing" end.

The handy little dial on the other end is awesome! Sam just pushed a tad to make sure the air bubbles were out. Then, he turned the dial to my dosage, 75 IU.

Here comes the fun part! Talk about romance! Ladies, you may have received flowers or candy or a card. But, my husband gave me the best gift of all... a shot that barely hurt at all!
He simply inserted the needle, pushed the dial to inject the medicine, counted to five to let it "sink in", and then took it out!

This injection pen is cool! It's so well designed and simple to use. I was nervous at first about Sam having to do the shot. Then, the injection training made me feel so much better. My friend, Karlye, was nice enough to answer a couple questions we had about it yesterday. So, today, we were good to go! It already feels like we're old hats at this! I have two more shots (Grow, little follicles!) and 21 pills left this week before I go for my ultrasound and bloodwork on Saturday, when we'll see how everything worked! If all goes as we hope, then we'll do the Ovidrel trigger shot next week.

Now, for the rest of our V Day... Subway (Eat Fresh!), The Bachelor, Coconut Dreams, then bedtime! Happy Valentine's Day!

By the way, in case you need a little reminder.... I have made a conscious choice to share all this info online. To some, it may seem way too personal to put on a blog. But, I struggled for a very long time with feeling like I am in some ways a failure due to all this and that I am the only one going through the struggle to become pregnant. (After all, it's been a little over four years now.) Reading others' blogs about infertility and treatments has really helped me in the process. It gives me someone to relate to. It also gives the practical information from a non-doctor's perspective. It's a way for me to keep positive and brag about the good moments and great doctors I have encountered through this process. I hope that in sharing this that someone else who may be facing the same thing can benefit, too. :)
