The Weekend and Questions for Moms

Over the weekend, Sam and I went on a date, had steak, got coffee, and saw Tim Hawkins at church.  It was great to have a date night!  This is the first photo of just us two since we had the girl...

Here's what's been on my mind lately...

I was pretty lucky with my weight loss after I had her.  I have lost 13 pounds or so from my pre-pregnancy weight, but I'll be honest.  It is a lot of work to keep it off.  I am constantly thinking about what I am eating and how much.  I've had an online Weight Watchers account forever, so I am back on that bandwagon and working on logging points.  I miss the paper version though.  It seemed to be so much easier than getting on the computer every time I eat.  I am still working on scheduling time to work out. Some days it's hard to have treadmill time as part of my routine.

Which brings me to my questions for you more experienced moms...
1. How/when do you fit in time for exercise?  First thing in the morning?  When your baby/child is napping?  Have you ever tried any of the postnatal workout dvds?  If you did, which one and did you like it?  I am wondering when my stomach muscles might start to feel normal (not that I had a six-pack or anything) from the c-section.  If you had a c-section, did you find any specific exercise that seemed to be most beneficial for that?  I know, this is more like five questions.

2. Let's talk about gasiness.  Camille is on Enfamil Gentlease.  She takes three ounces every three hours during the day and four ounces every four hours during the night.  I burp her multiple times during/after eating. And, she does burp.   We use Dr. Brown bottles.  We also use gas drops.  Our problem is that about 30-40% of the time, she screams, turns bright red, and cries when she has gas or needs to poop.  It's not every day.  It's usually about three-four times a week.  There's no specific time of day that it's happening.   I have talked to the nurse at the pediatrician's office, and she didn't seem to think it's an issue.  Do you have any other suggestions for soothing her through the gasiness?  Have you tried gripe water?  Do you have any tricks that have worked?  So far, I have tried moving her legs in a bicycle motion, giving her extra gas drops, holding her/rocking her/talking to her to try to distract her, laying her on her back, and laying her on her belly.  Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Leslie.....You look GREAT for just having a baby! Adeline is 18 months old and I am just now getting to my "comfortable weight" so BRAVO to you!
I fit excercise in whenever I can and it is never the same time (sometimes early morning, sometimes nap time and somedays it is just a long walk with her in the stroller). As far as the gasiness....I would recomend a Sleepy Wrap (better than Moby wraps) to keep her close to you and comfort her. BEST THING EVER INVENTED and I am not just saying that. It saved my life (and sanity)with Adeline. I am selling mine on ebay now and it was the hardest thing to get rid of, even though I don't need it anymore.
Good Luck. She is so beautiful!

Ditto to what Lindsey said... You look great!

But here is my two cents... :)

1. Post pregnany workouts: www.lindsaybrin.com <-- Check her out, she is amazing and has lost all of her weight after having three babies. She has great work outs and challenges that you can do at home.

2. My little girl (10weeks old) had the same problem with formula. We switched to Gerber Good start (Orange can)... it has worked wonders.

Hang in there!

Hey girl! I work out when Jason gets home. He watches the kids and I hit the treadmill. It is way harder to keep it off after a baby. Try myfitnesspal.com instead of weight watchers to record your food. It's a lot easier. Just jot it down on a post it and enter it at the end of the day. As far as gas goes...honestly babies just are gassy until their digestive system matures. Hers sounds totally normal. Usually they outgrow the most of it by 3 months or so. When S's tummy hurts she loves to be swaddled super tight. Seems to settle her right down. I use the Halo sleep sacks with the velcro and then put her in the swing swaddled and put it on the highest setting and she calms right down. Good luck! She is beautiful!

I'm no help with the gasiness issue, but you look fantastic.

B and I talked about you (like the highschoolers we are!!) and how amazing you looked after our visit.

Thanks for setting the bar high my friend...ha!

Charlotte had really bad gas, and we tried pretty much everything, but nothing seemed to help completely. She did eventually grow out of it, which I know isn't much comfort right now!

Great job with the weight loss! Charlotte was 9 months old by the time I found a good workout routine. For me, it means getting up at 5:30 a.m. to workout and read my Bible. If I don't do it then, it rarely gets done. It's SO hard to get up then because I am a night owl, but I've been slowly working on going to bed earlier so I can feel rested. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather so I can exercise more with Charlotte by going out with the stroller.
